The Caduceus has its roots in Greek mythology. It's a staff entwined with two serpents and topped with wings. This symbol was associated with Hermes, the messenger god. It arose in the U.S. in the early 20th century when it was adopted by the U.S. Army Medical Corps. This happened due to a mix-up with another similar symbol, the Rod of Asclepius, which features a single serpent coiled around a staff and is the true ancient symbol of medicine. Despite this, the Caduceus has persistently been used in various medical and healing contexts in the United States, especially in nursing symbols and logos.
